When i first started looking at rewriting geeklog urls, it appeared hardly anyone was using mod_rewrite rules and hacking their dynamic content management systems.
These days the practice is becoming increasingly popular and it is only right that geeklog urls can be shown in a more static fashion. This website is purely a demonstration of what can be done to make geeklog more SEO friendly with the obvious benefits of increased traffic volume from simplified urls.
Practically all the dynamic urls are replaced by more simple, static looking urls. The exceptions are the admin urls, which doesn't matter because no search engine spider should ever be seeing anything in the admin anyway. Some of the comment strings are left untouched as they can be ridiculously long and they are usually buried well within a website. I also haven't touched the calender urls, i haven't found a use for the calender in geeklog and so most of the time i just cut the calender link out. Perhaps at some point i will rewrite these urls too.
Mouse over the links in the website and you will see the urls in the status bar of your browser, all the question marks have gone.
This is a first attempt and i won't deny there will be improvements that can be made. I welcome anyone to make comments and take advantage of the Mod Rewrite Download, so that you can try your own Geeklog Mod Rewrite Hack.
